Mecoprop (or Methylchlorophenoxypropionic Acid); Widely Used as a Herbicide in the Agricultural Industry
Mecoprop is an organic general purpose herbicide usually found in many household weed killers and weed-and-feed type yard fertilizers. It is primarily used to prevent broad leaf weeds from taking over the garden. It is frequently used in conjunction with other chemical herbicides, such as MCPA (2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid), dicamba, 2, and 4-D. While commonly used as a pre-treatment, it can also be added as a post-treatment (also with the above mentioned herbicides). Commonly found in landscape and lawn products, it is been proven to be highly effective at controlling perennial and annual broadleaf weed species. Mecoprop, also known as MCPP (methylchlorophenoxypropionic acid), is also used for post-emergence control of broad-leaved weeds on grass.
