Light Linear Alpha Olefins Are Produces through Oligomerization of Ethylene and by Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis

Light linear alpha olefins are commonly manufactured by two main routes: oligomerization of ethylene and by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis followed by purification. They are manufactured for a variety of reasons. One such reason is to use them as fabric and other textile applications in clothing manufacture. Various companies use ethylene trimerization process that produces only 1-hexene. In the U.S., Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, LLC, uses this process. Another commercial process, offered by a technology licensor IFP, dimerizes ethylene to high purity 1-butene. There are a wide range of applications for light linear alpha olefins . They are predominantly use in production of polyethylene, linear aldehyde, fatty acids, linear alcohols. Alpha olefins are also used in production of synthetic lubricant basestock and to make surfactants in a blend with higher linear alpha olefins. Another common use of light linear alpha olefins includes printing and apparel industries, agriculture
