Biofuels Made From Algae Are Gaining Attention as a Domestic Source of Renewable Fuel
The
word algae refers to a vast array of various organism from various phylogenetic
classes, which together represent many taxonomic groups. It is a diverse group
of aquatic organisms that have the ability to conduct photosynthesis. Biofuels
made from algae are gaining attention as a domestic source of renewable fuel.
The U.S. Department of Energy is focused on research and development of
biofuels using algae as a viable fuel alternative. However, it requires too
much fertilizer, too much water, and too much energy to produce.
In
general, algae is known as plant-like organisms which are usually diploid,
meaning that they possess a procellular nucleus and are usually photosynthesis
and absorptive, but don't have true roots, petulas, leaves and vascular
tissues. Algae are classified into three basic orders based on the arrangement
of their skeletal elements.
Algae
are living organisms that can be used to create renewable and sustainable fuel.
This renewable and sustainable fuel will be used by cars, trucks, trains, and
boats. What makes this type of fuel unique is that it will be generated from
the waste products of algae.
Algae is a green, eukaryotic, Photosynthetic organism that can produce fuel via
photosynthesis. The process works by using sunlight, wind, and water to provide
energy for the production of fuel.
Algae
are in fact an incredible resource for biodegradable substances. Biomass can be
used as either fuel or fertilizer. The carbon that is extracted from the algae
is one of the world's cleanest sources of energy. Algae biofuels, algae oil, or
simply algal biofuel is an excellent alternative to liquid petroleum gas,
currently the largest contributor to the greenhouse gas emissions in the
earth's atmosphere. Also, algae biofuels are an excellent alternative to
commonly exploited biofuel resources, including corn and sugar cane.
