Surgical Cushions; Used during Diagnostic or Surgical Procedures to Keep the Body’s Posture Aligned
Surgical cushions are medical devices used in various
diagnostic and surgical procedures for surgeon's ease and patient's safety. However,
the choice of cushion depends on the type of surgery to be performed. In the
operating room, position of the patient is important to prevent complications
and provide the best care possible. Surgical cushions provide comport and
reduce the risk of injuries during diagnostic or surgical procedures. They are
made of various materials such as vacuum, gas, and foam.
Surgical
cushions are commonly used to support the head, neck, and shoulders to
keep the body’s posture aligned and to reduce tension and stress during the procedure.
Neck pillows provide a deep area to rest the head and a support area to keep
the neck in alignment with the spine while sleeping. Surgical cushions help
patients to maintain comfortable positioning after surgical, orthopedic, and therapeutic
procedures. They help prevent new neck pain developing and any existing neck
pain from worsening.
Moreover, they are firm enough to hold the neck, head, and
shoulders at a healthy angle, but soft enough to alleviate pressure points. Surgical
cushions provide support, and a person can use these cushions alongside other
therapeutic approaches to help relieve neck pain. They are mostly used for
medical imaging and surgical procedures as they are used to keep a patient in a
specific position during a procedure. With the increasing number of surgical
procedures, the demand for surgical cushions is also increasing.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in
2018, around 17.7 million surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures
were performed in the United States. Moreover, surgical cushions are not only
beneficial for people with certain types of medical treatment, but are also equally
beneficial for those who are undergoing or recovering from physical therapy.
