Intraoral Scanning and Inspection Systems Locate Any Abnormalities in Inner Ear, Oral Cavity, Teeth, and Jawbone
Intraoral
scanning and inspection systems are used in diagnostic procedure of the dental
and oral cavity. They are used to locate any abnormalities in the inner ear,
oral cavity, teeth and jawbone. The system uses light waves that are able to
penetrate any type of material that is in front of it. Intraoral scanning is
usually used for preoperative imaging as well as dental imaging. It has many
potential applications, such as the detection of the common conditions such as
cavities and infections.
Intraoral
scanners are in high demand in European countries such as the U.K., Germany, and
Switzerland, which has prompted manufacturers to expand their presence in the
region. In December 2020, Medit, a South Korea-based manufacturer of intraoral
scanning and inspection systems, partnered with Straumann Group, a Switzerland-based
provider of tooth replacement and orthodontic solutions, for the distribution of
its intraoral scanners. North America, on the other hand is witnessing approval
and launch of new products. In March 2020, Align Technology, Inc., a medical
device company, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its iTero
Element 5D Imaging System for commercial availability in the U.S. Moreover,
initiatives to boost digital transformation in the dental sector is also
expected to boost demand for intraoral scanners in the country. In January
2021, Aspen Dental Management, Inc., a healthcare business support organization
in the U.S., partnered with 3Shape, a manufacturer of dental scanning
solutions, to provide 3Shape hardware,
software, and service solutions, TRIOS 4 intraoral scanner, and other transformative
technologies to patients and practitioners across 900 Aspen Dental locations in
the country.
Adoption
of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in intraoral scanning and inspection systems is
expected to boost their efficacy. In March 2021, Intelliscan,
a dental scanning solutions provider, launched INTELLISCAN 3D, an open-source
intraoral scanner.
