U.S. Disinfecting Cap industry has gained significant traction growing applications in catheters during medical procedures
Disinfecting Cap is a new product in
catheter safety. Designed to be worn on the nipple or the base of the penis to
provide an additional barrier to improve hygiene, as well as prevent the spread
of disease. Using disposable tampons in combination with other easy
interventions, such as passive or active disinfecting, helps to reduce
infection rates related to other types of central vesicle catheters by
preventing colonization by microorganisms and providing an obvious indicator
that the surrounding tissue has been sterilized. This product offers a safe
alternative to current vesicle catheter designs and should be used in tandem with
existing devices to achieve the best protection.
The U.S.
disinfecting cap is easy to use and features an extra-large drainage
hole which allows for easy removal. The pads can be changed over multiple
times, to allow for easy cleaning and disposal. The curos disinfecting
connectors are made from medical-grade silicone rubber, which provides added
protection against other forms of contact and sterilization. In fact, 70%
isopropyl alcohol is required in order to make the connectors effective for a
variety of infections. In order for the U.S. disinfecting cap to work, it must
remain in the housing area for the shortest amount of time possible.
While there is no requirement for the
device to remain outside of the patient's body for the entire one minute that it
remains securely in place, it is not uncommon for it to remain in the patient's
body for up to five minutes, especially when the device is used for the first
time and then every time it is used thereafter. However, if the proper
disinfecting instructions are not followed, the chances of contamination
increase dramatically. For instance, if the single-use disinfecting needleless
connectors are used to take blood samples for testing, and if the incorrect or
incomplete sanitization procedure is used, the chances of an infection increase
significantly, especially with regards to the possibility of introducing
bacteria and fungi into the blood.
