Smart Locks are becoming increasingly popular since they are smartphone-friendly, offer better security, presence detection, and convince for disabled or elderlies
A smart lock is a mechanical and
electronic locking device, which opens with an authorized user's access code.
In a smart home, smart locks let a homeowner give others access to their house
without needing a key. These can be installed with an app and will connect to
the existing home security system. With the right app, a user will be able to
see their trusted contact information, and the option to send them a text
message or call them. The options are endless for smart
locks to compliment any home security strategy.
These locks are highly
tamper-resistant. Most models are sealed against tampering with both the
interior and exterior; however, it's still possible to damage the lock by
inserting tools such as a screwdriver. Furthermore, since the lock is sealed, a
burglar will most likely not consider breaking it in to gain entry. Some models
are equipped with proximity sensors, which sound an alarm when it senses
movement around the perimeter of the door. These devices are just as easy to
install and operate similar to traditional ones. However, many home automation
companies like Smart Home now offer wireless solutions that do not use
Bluetooth.
These devices will usually need to be
installed on the actual door itself. They are just as effective at stopping
burglars as the older models, but they are much easier to use. However, there
are several disadvantages as well. To begin with, these are very expensive.
These can run into the hundreds to even thousands of dollars depending on the
type and configuration. Furthermore, they are usually not installed properly.
Since the lock has to communicate with the door opener and the frame of the
door, these are often placed in the wrong location. While some popular models
have deadbolt locks that are actually installed in the garage, this is not
always the case with the more expensive models. Recently, in January 2020,
Hugolog launched 4 new innovative smart lock solutions at CES 2020.
