Petroleum Coke Is A Byproduct Of Petroleum Production, Which Is A Carbon-Rich And Solid Material And Is Used As An Alternative Fuel For Various Applications
Petroleum
coke (petcoke) is used all over the world, including in regions such as
Germany, Mexico, and Japan. Petroleum
coke (petcoke) is a by-product of crude oil production. Petroleum coke
(petcoke) is usually prepared from crude oil, utilizing either a crude oil
refiner or oil burner. The output from such plants is coke gas, which can be
refined into fuel or industrial gases.
It
has been seen that petroleum
coke (petcoke) contains two byproducts that are quite useful in their
rights. These are known as paraffin wax and methylated paraffin. Paraffin wax
is used for treating emulsions and dilute chemicals, whereas methylated
paraffin is found useful in stabilizing and lubricating various materials that
are used in the oil refining industry. Hence it is not wrong to say that
petcoke is itself a byproduct of petroleum refining.
The
main function of petroleum coke (petcoke) pertains to its usage as a fuel coke
and as a fuel ingredient. As is already mentioned above, petcoke is often
prepared from crude oil and is thus required to act as a solvent for the
treatment of various chemicals that are involved in the oil-refining industry.
Thus it is used to produce liquid fuel coke which is highly useful as a fuel
ingredient in automobiles. In regions such as Germany, the prevalence of high
number of oil and petroleum refineries has increased the production of petroleum
coke (petcoke). For instance, according to Mineralölwirtschaftsverband
Deutschland e.V. (the German petroleum industry association), currently there
are around 13 oil refineries in the region.
Another
valuable use of petroleum coke (petcoke) is as an effective brake for crushing
resistant rocks. More so, petroleum coke acts as a lubricant for crushed rock.
Petroleum coke is a byproduct of natural limestone. This byproduct is extremely
useful and widely used as a lubricant in industries like concrete and highway
maintenance. Moreover, the petiole that is produced by the oil industry is
usually stored as a byproduct in petroleum plants and refineries.
