Low Density Poly Ethylene (LDPE); Ideal To Use across Various End-Use Industries, such as Packaging, Construction, and Automotive

Low Density Poly Ethylene LDPE

Low density poly ethylene (LDPE) is a thermoplastic made from the monomer ethylene. It is mainly used in film applications for both packaging and non-packaging applications. LDPE is the oldest and most mature of the polyethylenes (PE). Low density poly ethylene (LDPE) offers high flexibility and superior resistance property, making it ideal to use across various end-use industries, such as packaging, construction, and automotive. Moreover, LDPE is widely used for the packaging of dairy products, sweets, snacks, and frozen/baked food products.

The production cost of low density poly ethylene (LDPE) is almost ten times less than that of nylon, PET, and polystyrene due to the high availability of raw feedstock and large production volumes. Thus, there is an increasing demand for LDPE in various end-use industries. LDPE is one of the major materials used in the construction industry. Thus, with the rapidly growing construction industry, the demand for LDPE is also increasing. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the United States, India, and China, are expected to account for almost 60% of all global growth in the construction sector by 2025.

It is used in construction as window films, vapor retarders, flooring and counter top protection, and even in roofing. Polyethylene sheet can be used to cover building materials, seal off rooms, and be used in lead abatement projects. Moreover, low density poly ethylene (LDPE) exhibits flexibility, chemical resistance, and waterproofing capabilities. It is used in the manufacture of a wide range of products, including grocery bags, plastic wrap and film, flexible packaging material, and injection molded parts. It is a soft, flexible, lightweight plastic material; noted for its toughness, low temperature flexibility, and corrosion resistance.

LDPE have low tensile strength but high flexibility and offer superior resistance property to chemical and electricity, makes it ideal to use across various end-use industries. Moreover, its renewability and insulation form electrical properties has led to the expansion of the application of the low density poly ethylene (LDPE) in end-use industries worldwide.
