Gasket and Seals Play an Important Role in Preventing Leakage in Many Industrial Applications

Gasket and Seals

Gasket and seals play a vital role in the proper operation of refrigeration systems within the industrial setting. It is important to regularly maintain these components for maximum efficiency in operations. Properly maintaining these components ensure optimal performance and longevity of refrigeration systems. These components also contribute to the efficiency of cooling towers and other equipment that utilize them. There are four primary types of gasket materials with varying performance characteristics.

The most commonly used gasket material is sheet metal, solid rubber or double shell gaskets. Various mechanical seal devices are used to prevent leakage and seal leaks from occurring. Seals are often employed to close refrigeration tubing as well as cooling towers. The following list explains the most commonly used manufacturing applications as well as a description of each material.

Plastic sheet gaskets, mechanical seal blocks or mechanical shaft seals are often used in the cooling systems of plastic bottles and other similar items. These products are typically seamless and can form part of the outer casing of any item. In addition, they can prevent leakage by forming a tight seal around any component that is subjected to liquid flow. Seals are often made of a solid compound and can be formed using hot-dip galvanized steel, aluminum or PVC. They are frequently used in refrigeration applications as they prevent cooling tube leaks.

In the commercial sector, rubber gasket and mechanical seal blocks are often used in the cooling chambers of refrigeration lines and cooling towers. These seals provide excellent sealing properties and prevent fluid passage. As a result, they prevent the occurrence of refrigeration leaks and damage to cooling equipment. Additionally, they are an important component in the manufacture of plastic bottles and pharmaceutical packaging.

In addition, gasket and seals play an important role in preventing leakage in many other industrial applications. In the automotive industry, for example, they are often used in the manufacturing of air bags, seals, clutches, gas tanks and other fittings where a seal is needed to prevent leakage. In the construction industry, seals are often used on pipe lines to prevent the escape of gas and liquids. Automotive sealants prevent leakage of fuel at the point of combustion as well as preventing the escape of vapor. In the chemical processing industry, gasket and seals are used in the manufacture of refrigeration lines, flange seals and other components.

Gasket and seals are essential items in many applications, but their importance is growing as other sealing supplies and techniques become available. With the expansion of sealing techniques like thermal tape, O-ring sealants, compression packing, etc., there is an increasing need for reliable and effective mechanical shaft seals. As a result, these products are becoming a major part of the sealing inventory and are expected to grow in demand in the future.

Major players in the gasket and seals market include, Freudenberg, SKF, Federal-Mogul, Parker-Hannifin, and Cooper Standard among others. In May 2020, Germany-based Freudenberg acquired 100 percent of the shares in Low & Bonar PLC, the U.K.-based manufacturer of technical textiles.
