Cleanroom Technology; Help Filter Contaminants to Provide the Cleanest Area Possible

Cleanroom Technology

Cleanroom technology is used for the concentration of airborne particles such as particulates (such as skin, hair, and dust), microorganisms (such as fungus and bacteria), chemicals (such as vapors, metal ions, grease, and oil), and radiations (ultraviolet radiations). These are mainly used for manufacturing medical goods or for research and development purposes. Cleanroom is an enclosed space constructed to control airborne particles such as radiations, particulates, chemicals, and microorganisms. All these factors are required to maintain efficient operation of cleanliness.

Cleanroom technology is used filter pollutants found in controlled environment to provide the cleanest area possible. Most cleanrooms are used to manufacture electronics, pharmaceutical products, and medical equipment. A cleanroom is built specifically to prevent the spread of the contaminants into the other parts of the facility. The reason this is necessary is because any type of manufacturing process will involve the dispersal of air particles and infectious materials throughout the facility.

Air borne contaminants are easily inhaled by humans causing health issues ranging from minor infections to fatal diseases. Usually, all manufacturing processes release harmful emissions, which are detrimental to the health of workers in the area. Thus, with the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases, the demand for cleanroom technology is also increasing with a rapid pace. Moreover, stringent regulations regarding the approval of healthcare products in the United States have led to an increased demand for cleanroom technology.

Furthermore, outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly impacted the manufacturing of medical devices and consumables. Thus, manufacturers are focusing on ensuring uninterrupted supply of cleanroom consumables during the pandemic. This in turn is also expected to increase the demand for cleanroom technology worldwide. Cleanroom is constructed and operated in a manner to control the introduction, generation, and retention of contaminates inside the space.

Various equipment are used to maintain these conditions, such as bio-safety cabinets, laminar air flow systems, air diffusers and showers, high-efficiency particulate arrestance filters, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
