Patient positioning devices are proving to be critical in surgical procedures by providing surgeons with a better view of any potential surgical problem

Patient Positioning Devices

Patient Positioning Devices refers to the various devices typically used during a surgical procedure. Patient Positioning Devices offer medical staff additional opportunities for preoperative and postoperative positioning. It is currently being studied whether intrapersonal and interventional methods of patient positioning are improved when ultrasound or magnetic resonance technology is employed. Current studies show very promising results when the use of these two technologies is combined.

Patient Positioning Devices (PPD) can greatly improve the ability of an orthopedic surgeon to manage postural change. This technology has developed a great deal over the last two decades. One of the best benefits of these devices is the reduction of potential surgical errors and incisions. A surgical patient positioning device is able to provide the surgeon with a better view of any potential surgical problems that need to be addressed before the operation begins. For instance, the presence of a scar on the side of a patient could potentially mean that an incision will be made in order to adjust the scar. If the scar was created from a surgical error, the surgeon would not be able to see this without a viscoelastic or latex-free glove. However, if the scar was created from another source, the surgeon would be able to see it and take the necessary steps to correct the problem.

Another benefit that makes the use of patient positioning devices even more valuable is the decrease in pain that can occur during a surgical procedure. There are two main types of these devices available to patients; those that are latex-free and those that are hydrocortisone. Both of these devices are designed to reduce the amount of discomfort that is experienced by the patient during a surgical procedure. Recently, in July 2020, Hillrom, a U.S.-based medical technology company, launched PST 500, a precision surgical table, and Yellofins Apex Stirrups.
