Smokeless Products or Smokeless Tobacco Contain Nicotine, Thus Highly Addictive
Smokeless products, or smokeless tobacco, are formally meant
for consumption purposes apart from smoking. Their use involves sniffing,
chewing, or placing the product between the gum and the lip or cheek. Smokeless
products contain more than 3000 constituents. These products contain tobacco or
a mixture of tobacco that can be chewed, inhaled, or sucked. Dissolvable
tobacco, snuff, Snus, and chewing tobacco are some different types of smokeless
products that are available in the market. However, such tobacco products
contain nicotine and are therefore highly addictive. They also contain plant
material such as catechu, areca nut, betel leaf, spices, and non-tobacco
condiments. While alkaline agents, humectants, salt, sweeteners, fruit juices,
and flavoring agents are some of the ingredients used in smokeless tobacco
products.
Nowadays, consumers prefer to use smokeless products such as
tobacco-free and nicotine-free tobacco pouches due to life-threatening effects
of tobacco, such as cancer. Smokeless tobacco products are essentially a
tobacco product which is utilized other than smoking. Their usage involves
chewing, inhaling, or putting the product into the lip or cheek or gum. Inhaled
smoke is commonly referred to as snuff; snuff is the product released in the
smoker's mouth when the cigarette is lit. Smokeless
products come in different forms, including chewing tobacco, snuff,
chewing gum, and dissolving tobacco products. Smokeless tobacco has been proven
to reduce the quantity of cancer-causing agents in cigarettes.
Inhaled smoke from cigarettes appears to have a pro-allergic
effect, increasing the rate of cell differentiation in smokers. Other health
benefits include reducing the risk of oral and throat cancers, preventing tooth
decay, and reducing the risk of certain types of cancer, according to research.
It is a healthier alternative than regular cigarettes. Most users do not
perceive any harmful health effects from using it. In fact, its benefits may
outweigh those of smoking because the products are made up of natural
ingredients and do not contain harmful chemicals. Legislation has been passed
in many countries making it illegal to sell or advertise smokeless tobacco in most
states. However, smokeless products contains nicotine, which is the chemical
compound that makes cigarettes addictive.
As the use of smokeless products in recent years has
increased, so too has the number of people that suffer from nicotine and
tobacco addiction. Most people are aware that smoking is an addiction. Nicotine
is a drug that is found in every drag of a cigarette. It enters the bloodstream
almost instantly and can cause harm to nearly every system in the body. Many
times, the products fail to help because they only raise nicotine levels a
little. This is okay for someone who is trying to quit, but those who are
heavily addicted may find themselves breaking down even before they have
succeeded in quitting completely. They must try smokeless products in order to
gain the same high that they experienced when they were smoking.
There is no safe level of exposure to the chemicals
contained in smokeless tobacco use. Young children, pregnant women, people with
weak immune systems, the elderly, individuals with pre-existing conditions such
as asthma, individuals suffering from cancer, smokers, and those with other
disorders such as diabetes, are at particular risk. Smokeless tobacco use
involves greater risks of causing early puberty in girls and men, reduced
fertility in both genders, reduced IQ, increased blood pressure, and weakening
of the arteries. Further studies are currently being conducted to determine the
full effects of this chemical on humans.
