Collateral Ligament Stabilizer System; Helps Maintain the Stability of Injured Collateral Ligament

Collateral Ligament Stabilizer System

Demand for collateral ligament stabilizer system has increased due to the increasing prevalence of orthopedic diseases and growing geriatric population with low calcium density, worldwide. The collateral ligament stabilizer system is used to maintain the stability of injured collateral ligament. The collateral ligaments are located on the outside part of the knee joint. They hold the bones together and keep the knee stable. The knee has four primary ligaments, such as lateral collateral ligament, medial collateral ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, and anterior cruciate ligament. These knee ligaments connect the femur (thighbone) to the tibia (shin bone).

Anterior cruciate ligament is the most commonly injured knee ligament. It is one of the key ligaments that help stabilize the knee joint. Anterior cruciate ligament is commonly torn during sports that includes sudden stops and changes in direction, such as volleyball, tennis, soccer, and basketball. Thus, there is an increasing demand for collateral ligament stabilizer system. Adoption of various sports, such as rugby, athletics, baseball, football, etc., has increased the incidence of sports injuries, especially for those who are in direct contact sports as they are more prone to collateral ligament injury. In the, around 30 million children and teens participate in some form of organized sports, of which, about 3 million experience a sports injury annually.

The most common sports injuries are ligament tear & trauma, fractured bones, dislocated joints, and muscle sprains & strains. Those who participate in direct contact sports, such as basketball, soccer, or football, are more likely to injure their collateral ligaments. Collateral ligament injury occurs when the ligaments are stretched or torn. Collateral ligament stabilizer systems are necessary to provide stability to the knee in case of knee injuries, as they help maintain the stability of injured collateral ligament. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for collateral ligament stabilizer system across the globe.
