U.S. Nutraceuticals industry is expanding rapidly with the advent of novel products to increase life expectancy and support the function of the body

 

Nutraceuticals are used in many medicinal systems and alternative health care systems. The subject matter is vast and includes nutritional supplements for the manufacture of bio-available proteins, vaccines, antibiotics, and other pharmaceuticals. Nutraceuticals have also been identified as ingredients in alternative therapies such as chiropractic care, acupressure, and massage therapy. Nutraceuticals do not come from nature. Instead, they are created in a laboratory through biotechnology processes. In this overview, much effort is devoted to introducing new concepts on Nutraceuticals related to their potential disease-modifying effects.

Emphasis is also made to introduce nutraceuticals into daily dietary supplements to make them more effective on difficult curative conditions associated with oxidative stress such as allergic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, neurological, respiratory, and colorectal disorders. While dietary supplements are intended to augment the nutritive value of the diet, nutraceuticals are intended to improve the disease-modifying effect of existing medicines and promote the prevention of future diseases. These new approaches have been recognized and reported in numerous studies.

A major area of focus in the U.S. nutraceuticals is oxidative stress including cancers. Cancer is a disease in which cells are affected due to mutation, exposure to toxic chemicals, oxygen, or radiation. Nutraceuticals such as curcumin, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and selenium are beneficial in preventing oxidative stress including cancers of all types, although more particularly colorectal, pancreatic, renal, and breast cancer. Research has shown that these compounds are also useful in combating other diseases including bacterial, viral, parasitic, neurological, and endocrine disorders.

The U.S. nutraceuticals and food supplements made from herbs and plants are also gaining popularity among people. A study was conducted recently by a group of researchers from the University of Wisconsin, U.S., who studied using various scientific sites to find out different aspects of how nutraceuticals are working on the different aspects of health and fitness.
