Spectrophotometer

A spectrophotometer is an instrument that measures certain amounts of radiation or light. It was invented in the 1960s to measure the amount of radiation that is released from various radioactive elements. The device is made up of a tube with a mirror on its top and with a handle on the bottom side of the tube. The light that passes through the top of the tube strikes the mirror and it activates the detector which measures the amount of radiation that has been emitted.

This instrument is very useful for medical uses. Doctors use it to diagnose certain diseases by determining how much radiation was released in the process. Aside from the medical uses, the Spectrophotometer can be used for non-medical purposes. Basically, there are two kinds of Spectrophotometers. The first is the monocular one which uses one optical glass tube that is about one inch long. The light is emitted through the top of the tube and the mirror located at the bottom. When the light strikes the glass, it will result in an image and a reading of how bright the light is.

The other kind is a compact one which is smaller than its counterpart. Usually, people use this instrument when they are measuring the amount of light that is coming from a distant location. The main difference between the two is that the compact one does not have a mirror. Instead, the mirror that can be found on the compact Spectrophotometer is used for detecting the shadow that has been cast by the moving object.

A modern-day one can be used for different kinds of measurement. For example, it can be used for monitoring the performance of a machine. There are various kinds of machines that can be used for this purpose. For instance, it that can measure the power consumption of a computer or television can be used for this purpose.
