Disposable Infusion Extension Lines Are Suitable For Administering Contrast Medium/Fluids during Imaging Procedures

Disposable Infusion Extension Lines

Disposable infusion extension lines are made of medical grade polycarbonate and PU (or PVC). These lines are used in continuous infusion and IV sampling studies in large and small animals. Infusion extension lines are used to extend infusion lines and offer a greater radius of motion for more mobility when administering infusion therapies. Introduced in the early 1990s, extension sets, are used to overcome workplace needlestick injuries and leaky ports.

Disposable infusion extension lines include, primary IV tubing that is used to infuse continuous or intermittent fluids or medication. Secondary IV tubing is shorter in length than primary tubing, with no access ports or backcheck valve. It is used to infuse intermittent medications or fluids when connected to a primary line via an access port.

Some of the benefits of disposable infusion extension lines include, high patient comfort, high quality kink-resistant tubing with smooth inner surfaces for laminar and non – turbulent flow, suitable for administering contrast medium/fluids during imaging procedures, and availability of various tube lengths based on customer requirements. These infusion extension lines also offer separation of administration and insertion sites, low mechanical irritation of blood vessel, and decrease in risk of thrombotic events such as thrombophlebitis. They also increase safety for hospital staff and patients as they help reduce needlestick injuries and leaky ports.

Increase in commercialization of intravenous infusion is expected to boost demand for disposable infusion extension lines. In October 2020, Knight Therapeutics Inc., a Canada-based public specialty pharmaceutical company, signed a new exclusive distribution agreement with Gilead Sciences, Inc., a U.S.-based biopharmaceutical company, for the commercialization of AmBisome (liposomal amphotericin B), a non-pyrogenic lyophilized sterile intravenous infusion of liposomal amphotericin B. It is indicated for the treatment of severe deep mycotic infections and/or endemic and opportunistic systemic mycosis, in Brazil.
