Increasing Number of Households with Companion Animals and High Expenditure on Animal Healthcare to Boost Demand for Veterinary Equipment and Disposables
Veterinary
equipment and disposables have come a long way since the day of their
introduction. Veterinary instruments are no longer just simple and ordinary
devices used for monitoring an animal's health. These instruments now perform
crucial roles in surgeries and have also been developed to perform minor
surgical operations. These instruments are now commonly used by veterinarians
to give the animals a better quality of life and lessen the suffering they go
through while they are waiting for surgery.
The
demand for veterinary equipment and disposables is expected to increase in
North America due to increasing number of households with companion animals and
high expenditure on animal healthcare. According to 2017-2018 U.S. Pet
Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook of American Veterinary Medical
Foundation (AVMF), the number of rabbits per 1,000 households in the U.S
increased from 1,408 in 2012 to 1, 534 in 2017-2018.
Veterinary
equipment and disposables such as ultrasound devices, microscopes, autoclaves,
sterlizers, and veterinary monitors have revolutionized the way surgery is
performed. Veterinary Microscopes are usually utilized to examine various
organs and tissues in a very fine manner. Veterinary ultrasound devices help in
examining various types of tissues in more detail. Veterinary imaging devices are
also being used to provide more accurate and clearer images than before.
Veterinary cutting instruments and devices used for suturing and stitching are
also being improved on a regular basis.
Veterinary
equipment and disposables such as forceps, cray machines, and ultrasound tools
are also used extensively. Forceps and cray machines are commonly used in
surgeries for securing or holding an animal during surgery. The forceps are
designed in such a way that they can be manually controlled and also adjusted
by a machine during the procedure. Similarly, ultrasound tools help in the
detection and localization of problems inside the body.
The
emergence of Covid-19 has led to acute shortage of staff and resources at various
veterinary hospitals in emerging economies. Thus shortage of doctors and veterinary
inspectors is expected to limit demand for Veterinary equipment and disposables
in such regions.
