Roofing Coatings play a vital role in protecting any structure from extreme weather conditions including heavy rains and temperature

Roofing Coatings

Roofing coatings are a vital part of the roofing system. They protect the roof from water damage and other damage such as hail and snow damage. A roof coating protects the roof from being broken, weakened, or punctured. The most common materials used for these coatings include zinc, asphalt, concrete, ceramic tile, slate, wood, and other materials. Most roof coatings can withstand extreme weather conditions, including high winds, heavy rains, extreme temperatures (including ice, hail, and snow), acid rain, and more. Many roof coatings are also eco-friendly and are designed to prevent algae growth.

Flexible or semi-flexible roof coatings provide the greatest flexibility. These coatings can be applied directly to the roof surface or maybe mixed with tar and gravel and applied directly. Flexible or semi-flexible roofing coatings can also be mixed with tar and gravel and applied to flat surfaces to create a bond between the two surfaces. This allows for greater flexibility when mixed with tar and gravel, which can cause it to more adhere to the surface it is on. There are many different types of asphalt that can be used in the manufacture of these coatings, including asphalt emulsions, tar, gravel, and fiberglass. Most homeowners prefer a material called asphalt emulsions. Asphalt is made from finely ground oil or natural gas and can be highly compressible.

As such, it has many unique physical properties, including high tensile strength, stiffness, impact resistance, thermodynamic stability, thermo-physical property, and chemical vapor pressure. While these physical properties of asphalt are great, its other physical properties make it vulnerable to thermal degradation. As a result, a layer of asphalt-based roofing coatings, called an asphalt-cement roof coating, must be combined with a heat-resistant vapor barrier. Asphalt that is not combined with this vapor barrier will begin to deteriorate faster. Recently, in the U.S., Polyglass U.S.A. Inc., a major manufacturer of roofing solutions, launched PolyBrite 70, PolyBrite 71-HS, PG 700, and PolyBrite 75 elastomeric roof coating systems with ICC-ES verification.
