During humid conditions, the presence of these devices provides comfort and convenience for these areas of the house. The same is true for high humidity levels, which can also create unpleasant odors and musty odors in the home. An air conditioner removes the moisture from the air in most instances, but does not remove the humidity levels in the space where the appliance is located, which is why it is important to have a dehumidifier to control the humidity levels in the home.

Dehumidifiers also are beneficial to individuals who suffer from allergies. Mold and dust mites thrive in extremely moist environments, and individuals exposed to high levels of humidity are at higher risk of developing asthma or other respiratory conditions. These devices draw the moisture out of the air and raise the humidity to a more acceptable level. By removing the moisture from the environment, they allow individuals to breathe easier and this lessens the chance of triggering an asthma attack or other respiratory condition.
